If you’re a guy who’s losing his hair, you may have been told that there’s nothing you can do about it – but that isn’t exactly true! Hair transplant surgery can be done to take hair from areas where it’s still healthy and growing, then relocate it to your head to fill in balding spots. The question is, does it work? And if so, who qualifies? Learn more about whether or not this treatment might be right for you.
Finding out if you’re a good candidate
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that transfers hair from one part of the scalp onto bald or thinning areas. Hair transplants can help with male pattern baldness and other hair loss problems. If you are considering having this surgery, it is best to consult with your doctor about whether or not you are a good candidate. This is important because if you aren’t, there may be some risks associated with the procedure which could affect your health. Your doctor will review your medical history and ask questions about any medications you’re taking, whether you’ve had any surgeries in the past, and how long ago those were. They’ll also look at photos of your scalp so they can determine how much hair loss you’re experiencing.
Things you should know before getting a hair transplant
– If you’re under 18, you can’t get a hair transplant unless it’s medically necessary. – If you have any skin conditions, like psoriasis or eczema, the doctors at Alborj Hair Clinic won’t be able to help you. – Doctors will need to take an extensive medical history before they can give you their opinion on whether or not they think it’s safe for you to have a hair transplant. – Some people might say that if your hair loss is caused by something other than male-pattern baldness, then there isn’t much point in having surgery because the transplanted hair will just fall out again. However, this isn’t necessarily true!
What are your options?
A hair transplant is one of the many options people have when they experience baldness. Alborj Hair Clinic offers two types of hair transplants: Follicular Unit Extraction and Follicular Unit Transplantation. The difference between the two is that in follicular unit extraction, just single hairs are extracted from the back of the head, whereas in follicular unit transplantation, larger groups of hairs are transplanted from the back of the head. In both cases, doctors also extract donor hairs from areas with hair and move them to areas without.
What should you expect during the procedure?
At Alborj Hair Clinic, we are dedicated to providing the finest hair transplant surgery in Washington DC. The process of hair restoration takes about two hours and is performed under local anesthesia. It is important that you stay still during this procedure, which will take place in our state-of-the-art surgical center. In order to optimize the success of your surgery, it is necessary that you follow all instructions as laid out by your surgeon. If you do not provide enough grafts or if the donor area is not healthy enough, then the operation cannot be completed. The physician will remove any excess scalp skin during surgery and then position the remaining grafts at optimal density according to your needs, making sure that they are in an appropriate orientation and at least one inch apart from one another.
How long does it take?
The hair transplant procedure can last anywhere from two hours to three hours, depending on the patient’s needs. Before surgery begins, the doctor will numb your scalp with an injection of lidocaine and epinephrine. The surgery itself is made up of two parts: harvesting follicular units from the back of your head and then implanting them onto balding areas. Follicular units are small groups of about one-inch square sections that contain between 50 and 150 hairs each. These sections are taken with a syringe under local anesthesia without any cutting or stitches.
Potential side effects
A hair transplant can be an extremely transformative experience. Sometimes, people feel like they’ve been given their life back. Yet, even though the procedure is considered safe, there are some steps you must follow in order to care for your newly transplanted hair. The following are some of the most important things you need to know about post-procedure care: Limit strenuous physical activity: Avoid sports or other activities that will cause significant strain or trauma on your scalp and newly transplanted hair follicles. – Cleanse daily with shampoo and conditioner: Wash your scalp at least once per day with shampoo and conditioner in order to remove dirt and oils that may be present on the scalp due to perspiration or environmental factors.
Post-procedure care
Keep it clean – keep your head as clean as possible by using soap and water when washing your hair, and be sure not to use any styling products in or near the area where the transplanted hairs were placed. Moisturize – using a moisturizer will help retain the moisture in the transplanted hair follicles and will also help promote healing and minimize irritation from rubbing or itching of the transplanted follicles against each other. Protect it – keep sunlight off of your scalp with hats, scarves, or sunscreen that has SPF 30+.
