Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Hydrangea Flower.
Step 1
Start by drawing some of the small flowers on the hydrangea. For apiece flower, use curved bars to form four petals in the body of a four-leaf clover. Notice how the flowers overlap each other.
Step 2
Draw more flowers using curved lines to form each of the four petals. Notice that one of the flowers has a different perspective: you look at it from the side. Make the closest petal flat, and draw curved lines from the three closest petals to the adjoining flower.
Step 3
Draw more flowers, allowing them to overlap the ones already there. Use a curved stripe for each of the four petals.
Step 4
Draw more four-petaled flowers, rounding out the ball shape of the flower head. Join some of the edges with curved chutes.
Step 5
Begin texturing and detailing the flowers. Draw curved star-shaped lines down the center of each flower. Two lines should extend on each petal.
Step 6
Continue drawing star shapes into the flower centers until all forward-facing flowers are complete. Texture the borders of some petals with wavy curved bars.
Step 7
Start drawing the leaves of the hydrangea. For each leaf, start with a long, curved line for the midrib. Then, outline the edges of the leaves using a series of short, curved lines that meet in jagged points. Notice that the sheets overlap each other.
Step 8
Draw more leaves that extend at various angles from the base of the flowers. For each, use a curved line for the vein and short lines that meet in jagged points to form the edges of the leaves.
Step 9
Use pairs of curved lines to draw the stem of the flower. Notice how the segments branch off to support the leaves. Color your cartoon hydrangea flower. Most hydrangeas are white, light blue, pastel pink, purple, yellow, or some combination of these shades.
