Stephen Anthony Ballmer in Detroit, Michigan, USA, March 24, 1956. He is the son of Beatrice Dworkin and Frederick Henry Ballmer (Fritz Hans Ballmer). His father worked as a manager for the Food Motor Company. He has a younger sister named Shelly Ballmer. He is an American citizen and belongs to the mixed ethnicity of Swiss and Belarusian Jews.

As part of his education, he took engineering and college preparatory courses at the Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1973. He also graduated from Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, Michigan. He scored 800 in the school’s SAT math section and was a National Merit Scholar. He graduated cum laude in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Harvard University in 1977. He also lived in Brussels and attended the Brussels International School in 1964-1967.
